26日、アカデミー賞授賞式が行われ、9回目のベテランホスト、ビリー・クリスタルがショーを無難にホストした。

話題の古き日のハリウッド無声映画時代から有声映画時代に移行する時代の無声俳優の苦悩を描いたフランス無声映画"The Artist"が作品賞、オリジナル脚本賞、監督賞、主演男優賞など5部門で受賞した。
主演女優賞は17回目ノミネートで過去2回受賞者のベテラン女優、メリル・ストリープが"The Iron Lady"のマーガレット・サッチャー元英首相役の演技でついに念願の3個目オスカーを受賞し、その直後Twitterではメリル・ストリープへ1分間で3790人ものツイートコメントでお祝いした。

･続く会場でのミュージカルセグメントで歌うビリー・クリスタル。さすがにお年か？音程若干ハズレ気味。やっぱりヒュー・ジャックマンのが良かっ、、、自粛
